A STUDY ON THE PREVALENCE OF MALOCCLUSION IN THE FRESHMAN OF CHONNAM UNIVERSITY

Abstract
This study was undertaken using Angle¡¯s classification to evaluate the prevalence of malocclusion in a group of 4,018 Chonnam University students aged from 16 to 24 years. The following results were obtained.
1. 35.2% of students had normal occlusion and 64.8% of students had malocclusion. In malocclusion prevalences there was no statistically significant difference between males and females.
2. Class ¥°malocclusion was 49.4%, Class ¥± malocclusion was 7.2%, and Class ¥² malocclusion was 8.2%, Class ¥±, division 1 malocclusion was more prevalent than Class ¥±, division 2.
3. The amounts of overbite and overjet with Class ¥² malocclusion were low, the amounts of overbite and overjet with Class ¥± malocclusion were high.
