A STUDY ON THE PREVALENCE OF MALOCCLUSION IN THE FRESHMAN OF CHONNAM UNIVERSITY

Abstract
|
|
|
This study was undertaken using Angle’s classification to evaluate the prevalence of malocclusion in a group of 4,018 Chonnam University students aged from 16 to 24 years. The following results were obtained.
1. 35.2% of students had normal occlusion and 64.8% of students had malocclusion. In malocclusion prevalences there was no statistically significant difference between males and females.
2. Class Ⅰmalocclusion was 49.4%, Class Ⅱ malocclusion was 7.2%, and Class Ⅲ malocclusion was 8.2%, Class Ⅱ, division 1 malocclusion was more prevalent than Class Ⅱ, division 2.
3. The amounts of overbite and overjet with Class Ⅲ malocclusion were low, the amounts of overbite and overjet with Class Ⅱ malocclusion were high.
